Privacy policy

1. Who operates this site

danielgarrie.com (the “Site”) is operated by Daniel B. Garrie in a personal capacity. Its purpose is to describe his availability as a speaker. The Site is not operated by Law & Forensics LLC, by JAMS, or by any university or other organisation with which he is affiliated. Those are separate entities, and none of them controls this Site or decides how information submitted through it is used.

Correspondence is received at info@lawandforensics.com, a Law & Forensics mailbox used here as a contact address. A message sent through this Site is therefore delivered into, and stored on, that firm's email system — see §7.

For every privacy question, data-rights request, or complaint described below, write to that address with the subject line “Privacy request”.

For the purposes of the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the “CCPA/CPRA”), Daniel B. Garrie is the business that determines the purposes and means of processing personal information collected through the Site. The Site is run by an individual rather than a commercial enterprise, and the rights set out in §9 are honoured as a baseline whether or not the statute's applicability thresholds are met in any given year.

2. The short version

To save you reading further: this Site does not sell your personal information, does not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and does not use it for targeted advertising. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no social widget, no chatbot, no session recorder, and no fingerprinting service. The Site sets no cookies at all and writes nothing to your browser's local or session storage. Fonts and images are served from this domain rather than a third-party CDN, so loading a page does not disclose your visit to anyone else.

3. What the Site collects

Server logs

Every website receives a request in order to answer it. Our host records standard server-log data: your IP address, the URL requested, the referring URL if any, the response code, the time of the request, and your browser's user-agent string. This is used to serve pages, diagnose faults, and identify abuse.

The speaking-inquiry form

If, and only if, you choose to submit the booking form, it transmits what you typed into it: your name and email address (both required), your message (required), and — where you choose to provide them — your organisation, event name, event date, location, audience size, format, topic, and budget.

Spam controls

The form carries a hidden field that human visitors never see, and records the moment the form was displayed so that a submission completed faster than a person could type can be discarded. Neither is used to identify or profile you, and submissions caught by either check are discarded rather than delivered.

The Site collects nothing else. It does not request your browser's geolocation permission, camera, or microphone.

4. Categories of personal information, in CCPA/CPRA terms

• Identifiers — IP address, from server logs; your name and email address, if you submit the form or email us.
• Internet or other electronic network activity information — request time, requested URL, referring URL, response code, user-agent string, from server logs.
• Geolocation data — coarse only, to the extent it can be inferred from an IP address at country or region level. Precise geolocation is neither requested nor collected.
• Professional or employment-related information — organisation and event details, only if you volunteer them in the form.
• Commercial information — the optional budget field, only if you choose to complete it.
• Sensitive personal information — none collected. The Site does not request or infer precise geolocation, racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, union membership, genetic or biometric data, health data, sex life or sexual orientation, government identifiers, or the contents of your mail, email, or messages.
• Inferences — none. No profiles are built and no automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects is performed.

5. Why personal information is collected, and how long it is kept

• Serving pages and preventing abuse. Source: your browser's request. Retained for our host's standard log-retention period, then deleted.
• Answering your speaking inquiry. Source: you, voluntarily. Retained as business correspondence for as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of the engagement or enquiry, and deleted on request.
• Email correspondence. Source: you, if you write to us. Retained for as long as needed for the matter and any applicable legal-hold or professional record-keeping obligation.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

The Site sets no cookies, first-party or third-party, and uses no localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB, web beacons, pixels, or device fingerprinting. There is accordingly no cookie banner, because there is nothing to consent to. If non-essential cookies or analytics are ever introduced, this section will be updated first and consent will be sought before anything is set.

7. Service providers

A small, named set of third parties process data on our instructions as service providers under the CCPA/CPRA. None of them is permitted to use it for their own purposes.

• Vercel Inc. — website hosting and content delivery, United States. Processes the server-log data described in §3.
• Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc.) — transactional email delivery, United States. When you submit the form, what you typed is transmitted to Resend for the sole purpose of delivering your inquiry to our mailbox.
• Law & Forensics LLC — email hosting. Your inquiry arrives, and is stored, in the mailbox at info@lawandforensics.com, which the firm operates and which is used here solely as a contact address for the Site. Site inquiries are not used for the firm's own marketing.

8. Disclosure, sale, and sharing

In the preceding twelve months we have not sold personal information, have not shared it as that term is defined under the CPRA (that is, for cross-context behavioural advertising), and have not disclosed it for any advertising purpose. Personal information may be disclosed only to the service providers named in §7; to legal or regulatory authorities where required by valid legal process, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect life, prevent serious harm, or protect legal rights; and to a successor in interest in the event of a merger or transfer of assets, who would be bound by this policy.

Because no personal information is sold or shared, no personal information of consumers under 16 is sold or shared.

9. Your California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the rights below. We honour each of them, and extend the same treatment to visitors who are not covered by a specific statute, as a baseline. Exercising any of them is free, and we will not discriminate against you for doing so.

• Right to know what personal information is collected, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties it is disclosed to.
• Right of access — obtain a copy of the personal information held about you.
• Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
• Right to delete personal information, subject to the narrow exceptions the statute allows.
• Right to opt out of sale or sharing — nothing is sold or shared, so there is no sale or sharing to opt out of. The Global Privacy Control signal is honoured as a valid opt-out request regardless.
• Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information — no sensitive personal information is collected, so there is nothing to limit.
• Right to non-discrimination for exercising any privacy right.
• Right to use an authorised agent to submit a request on your behalf, with reasonable proof of authorisation.

There are two ways to submit a request: by email to info@lawandforensics.com with the subject line “Privacy request”, or by post to the address in §14. If you email, please write from the address you want the request associated with. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days, extendable once by a further 45 days where reasonably necessary, as the CCPA/CPRA permits. We may need to verify your identity by asking for information that matches what we already hold; this protects you against unauthorised disclosure.

10. Do Not Track, and third-party collection across sites

California law requires this Site to disclose how it responds to a “Do Not Track” (DNT) browser signal. There is no consensus industry standard for DNT. For the avoidance of doubt: this Site performs no tracking whatsoever, with or without a DNT header, so behaviour is identical either way.

California law also requires disclosure of whether third parties may collect personally identifiable information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use this Site. They may not. No third-party trackers, advertising networks, embedded players, or analytics services operate on this Site.

The Global Privacy Control signal is honoured as a valid opt-out request under the CCPA/CPRA and comparable state statutes.

11. Children

This Site is directed to a professional adult audience — event organisers, counsel, and corporate staff. It is not directed to children, and personal information is not knowingly collected from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has provided information through this Site, write to info@lawandforensics.com so it can be deleted.

12. Security

The Site is served exclusively over HTTPS with HTTP Strict Transport Security enabled, and form submissions are encrypted in transit. We use commercially reasonable technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the very limited data involved. No safeguard is absolute, and no method of transmission over the internet can be guaranteed secure.

13. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision, and the policy is reviewed at least annually as the CCPA requires. Where a change is material, the revised policy will be posted here before the change takes effect, and material changes will not be applied retroactively to information already collected without your consent.
